TAMPA — The question of what law applies in any Florida courtroom usually comes down to two choices: federal or state.

But Hillsborough Circuit Judge Richard Nielsen is being attacked by conservative bloggers after he ruled in a lawsuit March 3 that, to resolve one crucial issue in the case, he will consult a different source.

“This case,” the judge wrote, “will proceed under Ecclesiastical Islamic Law.”

Nielsen said he will decide in a lawsuit against a local mosque, the Islamic Education Center of Tampa, whether the parties in the litigation properly followed the teachings of the Koran in obtaining an arbitration decision from an Islamic scholar.

The suit was filed by several men who say they were improperly ousted as trustees in 2002. The dispute may decide who controls $2.2 million the center received from the state after some of its land was used in a road project.

But attorney Paul Thanasides last week appealed Nielson’s decision with the 2nd District Court of Appeal, saying religion has no place in a secular court.

His client: the mosque.

“The mosque believes wholeheartedly in the Koran and its teachings,” Thanasides said Monday. “They certainly follow Islamic law in connection with their spiritual endeavors. But with respect to secular endeavors, they believe Florida law should apply in Florida courts.”

At this writing, circumstances in the Middle East may change between this sentence and my last paragraph.

What began in mid-December as an uprising that sent Tunisian President Ben Ali into Saudi exile on Jan. 14 quickly inspired Cairo’s Tahrir Square rebellion. Hosni Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for 29 years, eight more than Cleopatra, hastily retired when his people hounded him from Heliopolis Palace into his vacation compound in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Just outside Mubarak’s hideaway, two Iranian war ships this week floated north through the Suez Canal. This was the Iranian Navy’s first appearance in the Arab equivalent of the Panama Canal since 1979′s revolution installed the Ayatollah Khomeini and his joyless, sexist, bloodthirsty theocracy.

Eastern Libya now is controlled by regular citizens, freshly armed by soldiers who largely disobeyed orders to shoot their fellow citizens. Strongman Moammar Gadhafi ordered two fighter jets to bomb his constituents, prompting the pilots to defect to Malta.

“I have not yet ordered the use of force,” Gadhafi said Tuesday night. “When I do, everything will burn.”

Time.com reports that Gadhafi has instructed his operatives to sabotage Libya’s oil fields, supposedly to show Libyans that without Gadhafi, things could get really crazy. Libyan production already is down 25 percent, and Italy’s Eni and Spain’s Repsol have suspended operations there.

Face Forward Comments:The domino theory is that when one nation falls others will follow suite. We feared it in Southeast Asia and South America and while it did happen to some extent, America was not really harmed. This time it’s different for a couple of reason. First oil, second religion.

 Oil is so unbelievably interwoven into our lives. Most people only think of the cost of a gallon of gas. But when you consider that pesticides and fertilizers that provide us with cheap food prices, plastics and rubber products as well as medicines will either be gone or become hard to find, we cannot easily escape it grip on us. We get about 30% of our oil from the middle east. Without it $10 a gallon gas will be the least of your worries. Because without oil our economy will collapse.

 The reason that the wars in SE Asia and Latin America eventually ran out of steam is that they were based on an ideology (Communistic / Socialistic style of government) and they were powered by the poor underclass. Once the poor became integrated into the system and got enough food int their stomachs, the revolts largely died. Not so with what is happening in the middle east.

 The middle east is driven by a need to topple anything western in nature (think democracy and capitalism). While the media is presenting it to the world as the poor wanting to be free. However, it is actually an Islamic revolt. Don’t be fooled that the middle east will suddenly blossom and we will see the area full of little Islamic democrices just like Israel. Once the current leadership is removed, you may see elections but it will only be leaders that are approved by the Islamic Mullahs and that follow Sharia law. Once that happens Israel is doomed and the rest of the world could be pushed into WWIII.

Hundreds of al-Qaeda militants are planning terror attacks from Yemen, the country’s Foreign Minister said today.

Abu Bakr al-Qirbi appealed for more help from the international community to help to train and equip counter-terrorist forces.  His plea came after an al-Qaeda group based in Yemen claimed responsibility for the failed Christmas Day airliner bomb plot.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, alleged to be behind the attempt to blow up an American-bound aircraft, spent time in Yemen with al-Qaeda and was in the country only days before the failed attack.

“They may actually plan attacks like the one we have just had in Detroit. There are maybe hundreds of them — 200, 300.”

Dr al-Qirbi said it was the “responsibility” of countries with strong intelligence capabilities to warn states such as Yemen about the movements of terror suspects.  The United States, Britain and the European Union could do a lot to improve Yemen’s response to militants on its own soil, he added.

“We have to work in a very joint fashion in partnership to combat terrorism,” he said. “If we do, the problem will be brought under control.

“There is support, but I must say it is inadequate. We need more training, we have to expand our counter-terrorism units and provide them with equipment and transportation like helicopters.”

Mr Abdulmutallab is said to have told US agents that there were more people “just like him” ready to carry out attacks.

The theory behind being politically correct, is to reduce the hate that exist in the world.  By reducing hate words, it is hoped that tension would be reduced and there would be less violence on the planet.  The problem with the theory is that the person speaking the words and the person listening to the words really want to eliminate the hate.  So far, the Islamic terrorist do not appear to want to stop hating.  After all, they have had more than 1000 years of practice. So, while Americans are punished by the thought police for speaking the truth, our sworn enemies are plotting new ways to kill us and take down every western nation.  Or should I say, every Christian Nation….of course not that would be politically incorrect.

If Yemen really wants to rid themselves of terrorist, then they should declare war on them and make their actions illegal.  Again, it takes both parties to really want to make a change and stop the hate.  In Yemen’s case neither party really wants to change.  This is just an attempt to extort money from our treasury.

I have no hope that our bowing, Muslim educated, apologizing, Nobel Peace Prize wining president will ever actually do anything about the Nation of Islam.  For whatever reason, he along with most of Congress refuse to speak the truth and ignore the obvious.  Until our enemies and their hate filled mosques are destroyed, the American Public will never be safe. 

We the people need to make a decision; we either withdraw our troops from all foreign soil, drop our support of Israel, and be held hostage by Islam or we need to speak the truth and fight the until we are free from this threat.

I for one vote for fighting for my freedom.  My first strike in the war will be to work to  remove every liberty hating liberal from office and restore our constitution.

Speaking from Kaneohe, Hawaii where he is vacationing with his family, Obama assures America that catching the group behind the attempted in-flight bomb detonation on Northwest Airlines flight 253 is his first priority.

“A full investigation has been launched into this attempted act of terrorism and we will not rest until we find all who were involved and hold them accountable,”

“This was a serious reminder of the dangers that we face and the nature of those who threaten our homeland,” he said.

Still not acknowledging that the terrorist are driven by a religious ideology, Obama chooses to address it geographically.

“We will continue to use every element of our national power to disrupt, to dismantle and defeat the violent extremists who threaten us — whether they are from Afghanistan or Pakistan, Yemen or Somalia or anywhere where they are plotting attacks against the US homeland.”

Unfortunately Mr. Obama, this terrorist was from none of those places.  Again, Obama  fails to link the terrorist with the true source of Terrorism, Islam.  Love or hate George Bush, at least he understood who the enemies of the American public were.

Do you think the conspiracy theorist will try to link this guy to the Bush administration as well?
