"It makes no sense at all and affronts common sense," said Sen. Judd Gregg, one of several Republicans to criticize the measure. He added that a plan to expand Medicaid, the state-federal program for the poor, was a "bait and switch" with states as the victims. Republican governors, meeting in Texas, agreed. "We all know a sucker play when we see one," said Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana. The bill would expand the Medicaid program, which provides health care for the poor, and leave the states with part of the additional cost beginning after three years. Medicaid is administered by the states.

These decisions will be made by the Secretary of Health and Human Services based on the recommendations of an advisory panel chaired by the Surgeon General, who is appointed by the President, and made up of nine members who are not Federal employees or officers that are also appointed by the President.

What is not being said by the liberals, pushing the tax on high benefits, is that this is another way to drive people to the government health plan. "You can have a private plan, you can have a high end policy.....if you can afford it. Our job is to see that you can no longer afford it". Of course they will say, "we won't tax you, we will tax your employer so it won't cost you any aditional". I wonder how many employers are making so much money in this economy that they won't change the policy or push the cost through?
