Why doesn’t the Obama Administration understand America’s attitude over his speech to our kids

School administrators are caught in the middle of the controversy. Some have decided to show the president’s speech, while others will not. Many, such as Wellesley, Massachusetts, superintendent Bella Wong, are deciding on a class-by-class basis, leaving the decision in the hands of individual teachers.
“The president of the United States has asked us to facilitate his outreach to students. And in that vein, we have decided to honor the request,” Wong told CNN. “We’ll trust in his judgment.”
Republican leaders have not shied away from the debate. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, a possible contender for the GOP’s 2012 presidential nomination, said Friday the classroom is no place to show a video address from Obama.
“At a minimum it’s disruptive. Number two, it’s uninvited. And number three, if people would like to hear his message they can, on a voluntary basis, go to YouTube or some other source and get it. I don’t think he needs to force it upon the nation’s school children,” he told reporters at the Minnesota State fair.
Florida GOP Chairman Jim Greer released a statement this week accusing Obama of using taxpayer money to “indoctrinate” children.
“As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama’s socialist ideology,” Greer said.
“The idea that school children across our nation will be forced to watch the president justify his plans … is not only infuriating, but goes against beliefs of the majority of Americans, while bypassing American parents through an invasive abuse of power.”
Nonsense, the White House replied.
“The goal of the speech and the lesson plans is to challenge students to work hard, stay in school and dramatically reduce the dropout rate,” an administration spokesman said. “This isn’t a policy speech. It’s a speech designed to encourage kids to stay in school.”
White House officials noted that Obama’s speech, which will be available for anyone to view on the Web on Monday, is not unprecedented. President George H.W. Bush delivered a nationally televised speech to students from a Washington D.C., school in the fall of 1991, encouraging them to say no to drugs and work hard.
In November 1988, President Ronald Reagan delivered more politically charged remarks that were made available to students nationwide. Among other things, Reagan called taxes “such a penalty on people that there’s no incentive for them to prosper … because they have to give so much to the government.”
Face Fwd Comments:
How soon everyone forgets Dick Gephardt’s rant against Bush’s address to school children. It seems that the opposing party always has a problem with the president getting free publicity, especially when it concerns innocents like our kids.
Personally, I don’t really have a problem with a President speaking directly to the school children if his purpose were really to encourage them to stay in school, pull up their pants and take responsibility for their own actions. It doesn’t matter to me if he is a democrat, a black man, a cowboy or a rock star, anything that will help children develop into productive citizens has to be good, right? And there is the rub. What I and many others think of as a healthy approach to life may not be the same as Mr. Obama’s.
Understand this Mr. Obama: the people that I would consider to be the heart and soul of this country, don’t trust you or your motives. You have attended a church for 20 years pastored by a man who hates this country. You have palled around with 60′s radicals whose stated goals have been to take down the country. You have placed people into your administration that are pawns of the Federal Reserve. You received your political education in Chicago, one of the dirtiest political cities in the US. You have never held a real job but have been an community organizer for ACORN a proven fraudulent organization. Mr Obama, I don’t trust you.
The US department of Education which is suppose to stay out of curriculum, wrote the following as part of their original study guide, “Write letters to themselves (the school kids) about what they can do to help the president.”which after the controversy changed to ”Write letters to themselves about how they can achieve their short-term and long-term education goals. Do you think they/he “got it” or got scared?
Many parents have a problem with their child writing a letter about how they can help the president (maybe they don’t want to help the president do the things he is doing). Add to that, the the cult video that was released and you get the idea that this administration is out of touch with just how much middle America distrust them/him. Maybe we dodged a bullet this time, but the battle for the hearts and minds of our children is long from being over.
So yes, America is mad and frightened by where they see Obama and his liberal administration leading us. They hate the spending, they hate the implementation of socialism, they hate the loss of freedoms they see coming and they want the president to keep his hands off of our children. Hopefully, we will be able to keep our values and raise our children as we see fit. Hopefully, we will be able to cut the funding to programs like Americor and organizations like ACORN. Hopefully, we will have some leaders take a stand for what is right rather than what is popular.
