Grassley Warns HHS Web Site ‘Propaganda’ -Warning: Totalitarianism Ahead
Senate RaceSenate Finance ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is raising concerns that a Department of Health and Human Services Web site that urges visitors to send an e-mail to President Barack Obama praising his health care reform plan may violate rules against government-funded propaganda.
The Web page is accessed through a “state your support” button featured prominently on the HHS Web site and carries a disclaimer that the Web site is maintained by HHS.
In a letter sent to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Tuesday, Grassley warned that “any possible misuse of appropriated funds by the executive branch to engage in publicity or propaganda in support of an Administration priority is a matter that must be investigated and taken seriously,” noting that in 2005 Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) argued that “the use of official funds for similar activities were ‘underhanded tactics’ and that these tactics ‘are not worthy of our great democracy.’”
The form letter on the “state your support” page includes language hailing Obama’s efforts. “We strongly support your commitment to comprehensive health reform. This is not a luxury. The continuing, sharp escalation of health care costs for families, businesses, and government is unsustainable. Reform is imperative. We believe that health reform must be enacted this year,” the letter says.
Additionally, the form letter says that signatories will back Obama’s efforts. “During these extraordinarily challenging times, we need to put aside past differences and address the health and economic crisis. Our shared interest must come before narrow interests so we can achieve a health system that is affordable and provides high quality for all Americans. We will support your budget with its reserve fund dedicated to achieving health care reform in a fiscally responsible manner. Each of us must be prepared to contribute to achieving this fundamental goal. By signing this statement we affirm our commitment to work with you and our Congressional leaders to enact legislation this year which provides affordable, high quality coverage for all Americans.”

Face Fwd Comments:
The propaganda continues. The Obama administration is using every arm of the government (illegally) to drive it’s agenda. We saw the lesson plans he had delivered from the Department of Education, we saw
the email sent around asking for artwork from the National Endowment of the Arts, and now, this latest attempt to use another branch of the government for indoctrination, this administration knows no limits. Which is why, I am so fearful of where this is leading us.
The people that support him and the elected Democrats now in government may be celebrating over finally getting the push they have wanted on things like Global Warming, Punishing Business Owners, Taxing the “rich”, government owned health care, and wide open borders. However, they may be in for a surprise when this man goes way beyond things these liberal supporters ever thought possible. The ground work is being put into place for the transforming of this nation into a totalitarian state in the name of social justice and government efficiency
Even the staunchest supporter of this administration would have to agree that some of the steps taken recently ring eerily close to those, every totalitarian governments have historically taken. Totalitarianism is defined as:
A modern autocratic government in which the state involves itself in all facets of society, including the daily life of its citizens. A totalitarian government seeks to control not only all economic and political matters but the attitudes, values, and beliefs of its population, erasing the distinction between state and society. The citizen’s duty to the state becomes the primary concern of the community, and the goal of the state is the replacement of existing society with a perfect society.
Sound familiar? Maybe, but you ask, “What are the characteristics of a Totalitarian Government? Please read the following:
Despite the many differences among totalitarian states(i.e. Modern China, Russia and Nazi Germany), they have several characteristics in common, of which the two most important are: the existence of an ideology that addresses all aspects of life and outlines means to attain the final goal, and a single mass party through which the people are mobilized to muster energy and support. The party is generally led by a dictator and typically, participation in politics, especially voting, is compulsory. The party leadership maintains monopoly control over the governmental system, which includes the police, military, communications, and economic and education systems. Dissent is systematically suppressed and people terrorized by a secret police. Autocracies through the ages have attempted to exercise control over the lives of their subjects, by whatever means were available to them, including the use of secret police and military force. However, only with modern technology have governments acquired the means to control society; therefore, totalitarianism is, historically, a recent phenomenon.
Upon reading the attributes of a totalitarian system of government, hopefully you can see why so many in this country including myself are afraid of where this government is taking it’s people. And when we read that they are misappropriating our government funded resources to do it, it only gives us greater cause for concern.
